In Roman and Greek mythology, the Titans and Titanesses were the first twelve children of Gaia (Mother Earth) and Uranus (Father Heaven). They were giant, had incredible strength, and lived on Mount Othrys.

In the first generation of twelve Titans, the males were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius, and Iapetus. The females, the Titanesses, were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea, and Themis.

The second generation of Titans consisted of Hyperion's children Helios, Selene, and Eos; Coeus' children Lelantos, Leto, and Asteria; Iapetus' sons Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Menoetius; Oceanus' daughter Metis; and Crius' sons Astraeus, Pallas, and Perses.

The Titans were overthrown by the Olympians in the Titanonomachy (War of the Titans).

Children of titans

The marriage between siblings was common in Roman mythology, and several Titans and Titânides joined, giving rise to a second generation of Titans:

Tethys Ocean and generated the OCEANIDES, rivers (Oceanidas, Potamoi or Lemnai) and springs.

Hyperion Web and generated helium (the sun), Selene (the moon) and Eos (the dawn).

Coeus and Phoebe generated two daughters Leto and Asteria.

Cronus and Rhea formed the most important couple because they are parents of six of the Olympian gods, and some versions also parents of Aphrodite:

Hestia/Vesta, goddess of the home, that to maintain peace in Olympus, yielded its place alongside the other great gods Olympians to Dionysus.

Hera/Juno, goddess of fidelity and queen of Olympus.

Hades/pluto, god of the underworld where they are located both Tartarus and the Elysian Fields.

Demeter/ceres, goddess of agriculture and fertility, also known as Queen of cornfields.

Poseidon/neptune, god of the oceans.

Zeus/Jupiter king of the gods, king of Olympus.
